Meeting Topic: Talk by John Kinzer on “The Northeast New Mexico Geology and History”
Abstract: ”Noah Webster College sponsored a Creation Science fieldtrip to Northeast New Mexico in the summer 2025, and John Kinzer, the class professor, presents the geology and stops made on this trip. The talk will include an overview of the geology we can see in the region including the volcanic flows and cinder cone features of the Clayton, NM area, Capulin Peak, the sedimentary bedding in the Canadian River Canyon, as well as features near Cimmaron, NM and on Philmont Ranch. Santa Fe Trail history and history of the Lucien Maxwell Landgrant ‘interbed’ with the geology in this interesting area. Kit Carson’s home on the Rayado River was our final stop. We viewed his home and the surrounding area of Tooth of Time Ridge and the front range peaks of the Rocky Mountains near Cimmaron. You will enjoy this interesting interplay of geology, history, and scenery.”
