(Tuesday, 7:00 – 8:40 pm)
Meeting Topic: Talks by Keaton Halley (CMI) on “Monkey Morality – Can we be Good Without God?” (7 pm) and the “Solid Sky Myth” (7:50 pm)
Abstracts:
“Monkey Morality”
One of the most compelling reasons to believe in the biblical Creator is the reality of right and wrong. Keaton explains why moral relativism is bankrupt—there are moral facts which we cannot rationally deny. But it turns out, evolution cannot account for these moral facts. Rather, moral laws point to a Moral Lawgiver.
“Solid Sky Myth”
The Bible is often accused of teaching a false picture of the universe, with a flat earth, stars embedded in a solid sky, and a literal oceanic reservoir of water in the heavens. Skeptics allege that the Bible-writers merely adopted the mistaken science of their time. But what does a close look at the relevant Scripture passages reveal? It turns out that the skeptics have misread the Bible. The ancients may not have had all the knowledge we have today about the structure of the universe, but there is no good reason to accuse God’s word of teaching error.
Speaker Biography: “Although Keaton was converted to Christ as a young boy, for years he had unanswered questions about why evolution and the evidence he learned in science classes was not consistent with the Bible stories he heard in church. It wasn’t until his senior year of high school that he first heard a creation speaker explain how the geological evidence, dinosaurs, and biological complexity were completely consistent with the Bible’s historical account. To this day, Keaton has dedicated himself to not only get equipped with an in-depth knowledge about the crucial issues of creation, but has used that information to help others get answers for themselves . . .” (CMI biography)
